Mums Blog Part 2 - My first day at Ndeeba Primary

*
How do you explain a truly emotional yet wonderful day.  The walk to the school was something else, and right in the middle of one of the slum areas.  It is very hard to believe that people live in those shacks? The paths are very muddy, made even worse after a downpour, with puddles everywhere.  When we arrived at the school we were met with a guard of honour and at the end were 4 young children of different sizes carrying cardboard banners with welcome messages, whilst the rest clapped and sang.  We went into the school hall which is formed from 3 of the classrooms where the partitions have been pulled back, the first time this “hall” has been used.

Mums Blog Part 1 - Net Day!

*
My first and hopefully not my last experience of Mosquito Net Distribution Day. The area we went to is called Bujanko Island to the west of Entebbe. We were driving off road for well over an hour and a lot of it was only just big enough for a car, and part of it over swamp land. I think it is an area that is not visited by a car or truck very often as everyone looked astonished and then the kids come running out of their homes calling Muzungu (white person), smiling and waving. Quite an experience I have to say. It is an eye opener to see the homes they live in, so small, some in worse states than others. Mothers sitting outside with a bowl of water scrubbing clothes by hand and a small open air fire with one pot on cooking the (probably) one meal of the day which is something like a maize mash, or steamed matoke (plantain), rice, possibly a bit of green vegetable and maybe a bit of fish, or goat.

Bujanko Island Mosquito Net Distribution!

 *
Yesterday we had a FAB day!  We travelled to Bujanko Island in Uganda, a small island that now has a small track/road link to distribute 480 nets to children living in some of the villages on the island.  The weather was great & the atmosphere so happy as we (including my Ali & my mum!) spent the day travelling around the island distributing nets!  Its is such an amazing feeling & so rewarding to know that last night over 1000 children slept safely under mosquito nets! THANK YOU to everyone who bought nets through our website, we could not do any of this without your support & your kindness is now saving lives!!

Lots of photos below!!

How we plan a Net Distribution!

*
We are in the process of planning our next net distributions & I thought I would share with you the planning & preparation that goes in to a distribution!

  1. Identify an area of need. - previously our distributions were concentrated around the children that were a regular part of our charity, but now thanks to your amazing support all these children are sleeping safely under nets!  So now we are working hand in hand with the Ministry of Health Malaria Control Programme to identify areas of need that fall under under mission statement of helping children.  Once an area has been identified we move to the next stage!
